Northern Pride’s women’s side has been dealt a cruel blow less than two weeks out from their first fixture, with star player Hagiga Mosby set to miss the season with an ACL tear.

Mosby, who is a former NRLW-listed player and has top-flight experience, was set to play an integral role for the Pride in their first season in the BMD Premiership competition.

But coach Colin Wilkie revealed she will not take the field in 2025.

“It’s super disappointing, obviously all injuries hurt the team and you never want to see your players go through it,” Wilkie said.

“But, especially for ‘Hage’ she’ll be missed both for her talents on the field and her leadership.”

Wilkie said Mosby’s value to the team extended far beyond her talents and versatility on the field.

“She’s a player with NRLW experience and an emerging leader among our squad,” he said.

“She was part of our spine and was an integral part of our plans for the year ahead.

“She provides utility value which helps with interchange plans as she can cover multiple positions at a high level.

“That’s not to be for this year.

“This is her third ACL rupture, so she knows what’s ahead of her, which can be good or bad I guess.

“Her spirits are still pretty high and she’ll still play a role within the team, it just won’t be on the field.”

Wilkie said the focus for the club now is on providing Mosby with the right support both physically and mentally.

“We’ve got a strong backing with organisations who can provide help and support Hagiga during her recovery,” he said.

“She’s in good hands with professionals that are guided and managed by us at Northern Pride.

“While everyone on the team is competing for spots each week, when the news broke everyone was shattered.

“We’re all disappointed and it's a testament to how close the group is that this was the reaction.”

He said the focus for the team was now on how they could make the right adjustments and ensure they can compete at a high level this season.

“With injury comes an opportunity, and that’s what this season is all about at the end of the day,” he said.

“It’s going to be a great test of our depth, especially with ‘Hage’ and our other dummy half both unavailable for round 1.

“It’s a chance now for some other players to get a reward for all the work they’ve done during pre-season.”

The Pride’s first fixture of the 2025 BMD season will see them travel to take on the Brisbane Tigers on June 14.
