Todd Murphy might have missed out on his chance at the Broncos but the Sunshine Coast aren’t complaining.
The halfback has been in sublime form for the Falcons in this year’s Intrust Super Cup, scoring four tries and 34 goals to be the competition’s leading point scorer with 82 after seven rounds.
The one-time Cronulla utility and former Norths Devils man also sits atop the Petero Civoniceva Medal tally alongside teammate Harry Grant on 10 votes.
Falcons coach Eric Smith still can’t believe his luck.
“We were able to land him late in the piece … and he’s been outstanding as well,” Smith said.
“I think Murph and Nicho (Hynes) really enjoy playing alongside one another and they’ve both been in great form.”
Hynes is another showing NRL credentials after slicing apart his old club Central Coast Capras last week.
The 22-year-old scored a try, created four try assists, made three line breaks, ran for 179m, kicked for 164m and he made 16 tackles.
“I know they didn’t want to lose him and I can understand why, with how good he has been playing for us,” Smith said of his five-eighth.
Sunshine Coast are eyeing off eight straight victories when they host Mackay Cutters on Saturday.
