Iconic Maroons enforcer Darryl Brohman has taken aim at the NRL after former Kangaroos and NSW forward Les Boyd was inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Boyd was announced as one of 11 players to join the exclusive group on Wednesday, being described by the NRL as: “one of the game’s hardmen during one of the toughest eras, in the 1970s and 1980s, representing Australia in 17 Test matches”.
Alongside Boyd, superstars such as Cameron Smith, Billy Slater, Cooper Cronk, Johnathan Thurston and Benji Marshall were named as some of the game’s greats.

However, Brohman took objection to the NRL’s decision to include Boyd in that list, 41 years after the pair shared a fiery feud following a moment in 1983.
Boyd infamously broke Brohman’s jaw in a State of Origin clash that year during an ugly tackle that included a raised elbow.

Brohman took to Twitter on Wednesday, writing: “Les Boyd….. 9 Months suspension for breaking my Jaw in 1983. 12 Months for Eye gouging Billy Johnston.
“Gets inducted into the Rugby League Hall of Fame. Please!!!!”
Following the tackle, Brohman sat out for the remainder of the 1983 season and he also took legal action against his opponent according to The Daily Telegraph.
The pair reportedly settled the matter out-of-court and Boyd paid Brohman around $30,000 for the damages.
Speaking after the NRL’s announcement, ARLC chairman Peter V’landys supported the Hall of Fame committee’s decision, which was made in July.
“I’m in awe of this group of players and what they have each done in the game and for the game,” Mr V’landys said.
“This is the best of the best across several phenomenal eras. The group is full of Premiership winners, Dally M Medal winners, Clive Churchill Medal winners, Australia, New Zealand and England representatives.
“There are brilliant halves, powerful and durable forwards and gifted outside backs. All of these players are exceptional.”
