The Warriors are set to become an immediate NRLW heavyweight after landing two-time premiership winning coach Ronald Griffiths.
The former Newcastle coach has signed a multi-year deal with the Warriors from 2025 which is set to be announced in the coming days.
It’s a tremendous coup for the Warriors, putting them at a massive advantage in the market ahead of their reintroduction to the NRLW next season.
They’re one of two teams, along with the Bulldogs, who are part of an expansion of the competition to 12 teams next year.
Griffiths is a highly respected figurehead within the women’s game, having led the Knights to back-to-back premierships in 2022 and 2023 before stepping away to coach the men’s game.
Ben Jeffries has taken over as coach with the Knights, who kick off the NRLW season on July 25 against the Roosters at McDonald Jones Stadium.
This season Griffiths is head coach of the Knights NSW Cup team which has won seven from 16 games.
His switch back to the women’s game comes as a shock, however, an offer to return to the NRLW and build a brand new squad with the Warriors was too good to pass up.
Griffiths will help attract players based on his reputation alone, while the Warriors have shown they’re a serious contender in women’s space.
They will need all of his gravitas to lure players to the Warriors from 2025 with most of the game’s big names players secured on multi-year deal across the league.
He has already begun making calls to available players to convince them to make a switch.
The Warriors played the first three seasons of NRLW before they were forced to exit the competition during Covid.
The Bulldogs will be coached by ex-Roosters coach Blake Cavallaro, who has also begun the process of recruiting a squad for 2025.
