NRL Rookies to watch in 2020

The NRL player market continues apace as clubs ramp up their preparations ahead of the 2020 season kick-off.

In the latest news Alex Johnston has no plans to leave South Sydney, with the fullback intent on seeing out the final year of his deal.

Reported to be in the firing line as the Rabbitohs hunt Latrell Mitchell, Johnston is adamant he will be at Redfern this year.

Johnston’s manager Steve Gillis said the Rabbitohs were not attempting to move the speedster on.

“No one has ever spoken to either him or me about it,” Gillis said.

“And I certainly have not had an offer from another club. He will be at Souths this year.”

Elsewhere, the Gold Coast Titans have welcomed home a former junior prodigy.

Talented winger Greg Leleisiuao returned to the club on a train and trial deal from Parramatta — and on Friday was awarded with a full-time contract.

Leleisiuao was one of the club’s rising stars back in 2015 when he was coming through the Titans’ under-20s system.

He has struggled with injuries over the past few years and couldn’t crack the top grade at the Eels.

A former hip hop dancer, Leleisiuao returned to the Gold Coast to play for Burleigh in the Intrust Super Cup and has been training with the Titans during the pre-season.

The Titans on Friday announced he had been rewarded with a two-year deal, alongside fellow triallist Erin Clark.

In other recent player movement news, St George Illawara have signed former Panther and Rabbitoh Tyrell Fuimaono on a two-year deal.

Keep up to date with all the movement in the lead-up to the 2020 NRL season.
