Rugby league’s best Indigenous and Maori superstars will descend on the Gold Coast next year as the NRL moves to bring the All Stars clash back to the Glitter Strip.

The pre-season blockbuster will today be announced as making its return to the Gold Coast on February 22 next year, 10 years after the inaugural All Stars game was played just north of the Tweed.

The scintillating spectacle will feature a men’s and women’s double-header at Cbus Super Stadium.

Women’s Maori All Stars 2019 captain Rona Peters said it was an exciting opportunity to bring the clash back to where it all started in 2010.

“It would mean a lot to the fans on the Gold Coast,” Peters said.

“This was where the first All Stars game was played, so it’s going to be exciting to see it come back up here.

“You should’ve seen when the Warriors played the Titans, the Kiwis came from everywhere to watch it.

“It will be a huge thing for the region and I’m really looking forward to it.”

It follows after the All Stars fixture was brought back in a revamped fashion earlier this year after a one-year hiatus due to the rugby league World Cup.

Almost 20,000 fans packed AAMI Park in Melbourne earlier this year for the new concept between Indigenous and Maori players, instead of the NRL All Stars.

Peters’ Maori team claimed victory over their Indigenous counterparts in a thrilling 8-4 win in February, while the men’s Indigenous side triumphed over the Maoris 34-14 in an entertaining match.

Broncos star forward David Fifita gave a glimpse of his damaging potential, crossing for a try and running for 132m off the bench.

Tickets for next year’s game will go on sale in December.
