Newcastle have given Englishman Will Pryce an immediate release in a move that could free salary cap space for the Knights to make a move later in the year for Dylan Brown.

The Knights confirmed Pryce had been granted a release on compassionate grounds, allowing him to return to England for personal and professional reasons.

“Pryce has secured a multi-year contract in the Super League and the Knights did not want to stand in the way of this opportunity to return home to his family,” the Knights said.

Newcastle have already announced that Parramatta half Brown will join them next year, although there has been speculation the club could launch a bid at some point this season to get their hands on him ahead of schedule.

Eels coach Jason Ryles insisted that was not a consideration for Parramatta after his side was beaten by Manly on Sunday afternoon.

However, should the Eels and Ryles stance now change, Newcastle have some additional financial muscle to use for a move for Brown.

It is understood Pryce was on a deal worth more than $400,000 this season.
