The proposed deal between Canterbury and former Sydney Roosters prop Sio Siua Taukeiaho is off due to a foot injury.
Taukeiaho, 31, was offered a two-year deal at Belmore but hadn’t yet secured a release from Catalans Dragons in Super League.
Catalans were prepared to release him and Taukeiaho had agreed to a Bulldogs contract provided he passed a medical.
Taukeiaho is back in Australia but failed Canterbury’s medical last week due to his foot issue.
It is understood the injury will require surgery which would prevent him training throughout the off-season and into early next year.
It was enough for the Bulldogs to walk away, the decision a setback in Canterbury’s impressive rebuild.
Bulldogs recruit Stephen Crichton didn’t train but appeared at Belmore on Monday to meet with his new teammates.

Former NSW Origin half Matt Moylan has played his last NRL game, agreeing to a two year-deal with Leigh in the English Super League.
The 32-year-old Sharks five-eighth had one year remaining on his contract at the Sharks, but has decided to seek a release to prolong his career.
Leigh coach Adrian Lam managed to convince Moylan he would provide experience and an attacking threat for the English club.
Moylan faced the prospect of battling Braydon Trindall for a halves spot alongside Nicho Hynes after the veteran pivot failed to feature in Cronulla’s elimination final against the Roosters this year.
Moylan has played 102 NRL games since arriving at the Sharks after the 2017 season, when he ended an 89-match career with the Panthers.
Moylan played all three games of the 2016 Origin series.
