Round 14’s Super Saturday is in the books and three upsets certainly created some headaches for SuperCoaches across the board.
It started with South Sydney finally clicking and putting a big score on the Titans, before the Warriors took down the Cowboys in Townsville and Cronulla lowered the colours of the Broncos in Brisbane.
It was a brutal reality check for the Queensland teams after the joy of Wednesday night.
With a focus on SuperCoach, here are the 30 Winners and Losers from Super Saturday.
SUPERCOACH WINNERS
1. Latrell Mitchell (137 pts) – There’s a Blues spot on the line and Mitchell put in the perfect audition with a starring performances for the Rabbitohs.
2. Te Maire Martin (114 pts) – Took control of things for the Warriors and he played a big part in their rout of the Cowboys.
3. Addin Fonua-Blake (98 pts) – The front rower scored his sixth try of the season and posted another near ton. Mounting a case as the best FRF in the game.
4. Rocco Berry (87 pts) – One of his best games of the season and looked the goods with every touch of the ball, scoring a double on a great night.
5. Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad (94 pts) – Turned in his most electrifying outings of 2024. Everywhere you looked he was there as a good fullback should.
6. Siosifa Talakai (83 pts) – Is putting together some nice performances lately and we know he can score massive when he gets going. Another good night for Sifa.
7. Cody Walker (83 pts) – Has long been one of the most popular players in SC over the years and he could be about to hit a purple patch of form.
8. Braydon Trindall (91 pts) – The Sharks needed him to step up and he did in a big way. Will that be enough for him to hold his spot or will Daniel Atkinson get the nod moving forward?
9. Mitch Barnett (84 pts) – Took benefit from being around the NSW Blues set up and mounted his case for a bench spot with another consistent showing.
10. Pat Carrigan (75 pts) – An absolute workhorse and he was able to back up a good effort on Wednesday with a mountain of work in a beaten Broncos side.
11. Dallin Watene-Zelezniak (68 pts) – The score he produced doesn’t reflect the impact he had on the game. Looked superb on the wing.
12. Tom Burgess (67 pts) - He’s at a rock bottom price after a reduction in minutes, but he looked as good as he has all season off the bench.
13. Kleese Haas (68 pts) – Has been a solid player for the Titans and that’s reflected in his SuperCoach scores. Looks a solid buy over this next period.
14. Davvy Moale (70 pts) – Barged over for a try and put together a strong performance to reward those who have him in their sides at less than $340K.
15. Alofiana Khan-Pereira (73 pts) – His speed was on show with an electrifying try to top score for the Titans.
SUPERCOACH LOSERS
1. Chad Townsend (10 pts) – It’s hard to sugar coat Townsend’s game tonight and there will be calls for a change in the halves in the weeks to come.
2. Jeremiah Nanai (16 pts) – Backed up from Origin but it might’ve been better that he was rested after finding little in his time off the bench.
3. Chanel Harris-Tavita (16 pts) – While it was a night to remember for halves partner Te Maire Martin, it was quite the opposite for Harris-Tavita.
4. Alex Johnston (8 pts) – Sunny conditions had many thinking he could be in for a try haul on the Gold Coast, but he did little.
5. Freddy Lussick (12 pts) – Was given enough playing time to post a score of note, but didn’t make it happen.
6. Keenan Palasia (13 pts) – Started at lock and punched out just 23 minutes. Not sure if there’s any injury concern?
7. Sam Verills (17 pts) – Was again the victim of limited playing time, coming off the bench to replace Chris Randall. Looks an 80-minute player but isn’t getting that chance.
8. Siliva Havili (7 pts) – Went down with a calf injury in the first half and could miss a couple of weeks depending on the severity.
9. Tuku Hau Tapuha (13 pts) – Wasn’t able to get much of a crack tonight and it’s hard to see that changing anytime soon.
10. Ezra Mam (24 pts) – Jock Madden proved the dominant half for the Broncos tonight while Mam struggled to get his attack flowing.
11. Taane Milne (19 pts) – Came off with injury midway through the second half but had minimal impact before that point.
12. Jaxon Purdue (26 pts) – His PPM was very solid, but his minutes going forward and job security are the big questions.
13. Tristan Sailor (27 pts) – Had an unhappy night at the back for the Broncos and that puts his position in jeopardy with Reece Walsh to miss next week.
14. Selwyn Cobbo (29 pts) – Was a tough night defensively and Cobbo wasn’t able to have his usual impact with the ball.
15. Will Kennedy (30 pts) – Didn’t play poorly by any stretch but his solid game at the back didn’t translate into a good SC output.
BRONCOS VS SHARKS
FULL-TIME - Sharks 22-12
Deine Mariner had the last throw of the dice for the Broncos, racing down the sideline, only to be ankle tapped by Braydon Trindall to force him into touch.
This is a big win by the Sharks after back-to-back losses

70th minute - Sharks 22-12
The fumbles at the back are contagious for Brisbane.
It’s now Deine Mariner who makes a regulation mistake when trying to bring the ball back. Cronulla has been camped in Brisbane’s half for the duration of the second stanza.
In a further blow, Kotoni Staggs as come from the field after landing awkwardly. It’s a right knee that is of concern.
60th minute - Sharks 22-12
This is turning into a carve up.
Braydon Trindall puts it to the sky and Tristan Sailor cannot contain the bomb. He spills it, Sifa Talakai picks up the scraps and gives it to a trailing Blayke Brailey to make it three tries in a row.
This looks like a completely different Broncos team from the first half.

50th minute - Sharks 16-12
Cronulla strikes first.
Tristan Sailor makes an error at the back and from the scrum Sione Katoa is able to get past Selwyn Cobbo and Ezra Mam to cut the lead back to just two points.
It was the start they needed after dominating much of the first half.
Jordan Riki has been helped from the field after copping a stray boot to the melon.
It’s the Sharks again and they have their first lead of the night with Braydon Trindall taking on the line and coming up trumps.

HALFTIME - Broncos 12-4
There was an element of luck, but the Broncos pushed their lead out beyond a converted try after Jock Madden regathers his grubber that was fumbled by the Sharks, before finding Tyson Smoothy inside to easily score.
Cronulla don’t deserve to be eight down with the effort they’ve put in, but it’s a credit to Brisbane being able to defend their line.

30th minute - Broncos 6-4
The pressure has been relentless from Cronulla as they continue to pepper the Brisbane line.
Multiple set restarts and a few repeat sets were all brought unstuck with a sloppy play the ball from Jack Williams.
Corey Oates gives them another chance however, will they take it this time?

20th minute - Broncos 6-4
Kotoni Staggs has broken the game open.
A big run followed up by a quick play the ball allowed Billy Walters to get out of dummy half and offload to Pat Carrigan to score the opener.
It was a lovely play from the centre who is making sure Michael Maguire doesn’t forget him.
That margin wasn’t theirs for long however, with Sifa Talakai proving far too much to handle for Brisbane’s defenders close to the line.
He barged his way over the top of Jordan Riki to get the visitors on the board.

10th minute - 0-all
This has had a real big match feel so far.
Cronulla came firing out of the blocks with their intensity, particularly in the forwards.
Over the last few sets the Broncos have been able to get a few chances of their own and have eased into the game nicely.
This is shaping up as a real blockbuster.
7.20PM: Reece Walsh is set to miss two weeks on the back of his sickening head knock suffered in Origin.
Tristan Sailor (FLB $424,600) gets another chance to impress at the back in his place, with Kevin Walters opting to keep Selwyn Cobbo (CTW $589,000) in his new home of centre.
The Sharks are almost 1-17 from their side named on Tuesday, with Nicho Hynes a notable name not there with Craig Fitzgibbon opting to give him some time to recover after Wednesday night.
Toby Rudolf (FRF $427,600) moves into the starting front row position with cult hero Tom Hazelton (FRF $562,200) relegated to the interchange.
COWBOYS VS WARRIORS
FULL-TIME - Warriors 42-12
In a case of too little, too late, Scott Drinkwater gets the Cowboys in prime position by kicking the 20m optional restart out.
Valentine Holmes then puts Braidon Burns over in the corner.
They lose it from the ensuing set after getting a rough call from the Bunker from their Captain’s Challenge, and that ends it.

70th minute - Warriors 36-6
A very interesting sequence of events from referee Ziggy Przeklasa-Adamski and the Bunker.
Chanel Harris-Tavita was sent to the sin bin for lightly tossing the ball at Chad Townsend’s head, with Townsend also spending 10 minutes on the sideline for ‘escalating’ things.
The commentators have labelled it embarrassing and you can disagree.
To make matters worse for the Cowboys, Dallin Watene-Zelezniak has pulled off a miracle play to stretch the lead even further.
He pats a long grubber back into play with his boot just centimetres from the dead-ball line, with a waiting Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad securing his double.

60th minute - Warriors 28-6
The home fans didn’t like that one.
A lobbed pass from Te Maire Martin goes over the head of Kyle Feldt and bounces into the waiting arms of Dallin Watene-Zelezniak to score in the corner.
It appeared to travel forward out of the hands of the halfback, but it’s a favourable call for the visitors and they look home from here.

50th minute - Warriors 22-6
The Cowboys are showing better signs to start the second half, but they can’t eat into the margin just yet.
Their forwards are running much harder onto the ball and Chad Townsend has been able to put up a few attacking kicks.
It’s much more promising for the home fans, although they still need to find three tries over the final half-hour.
From being the most penalised team in the competition, to a lack of stability to the roster, there are plenty of factors behind the Tigers’ worst season start in their history...

HALFTIME - Warriors 22-6
The best moment of the half for the Cowboys came with a desperate trysaver from Harrison Edwards on Tohu Harris.
It mattered little though as they busted the line once again, with a juggling effort from Rocco Berry pushing the lead beyond 20.
The Cowboys are playing with as much enthusiasm as a kid going to the dentist.
Just when it looked like they would be shut-out at the break, Tom Dearden came up with a big play, racing out of dummy half and finding a rampaging Scott Drinkwater to get them on the board just before the break.

30th minute - Warriors 16-0
It’s the Cowboys turn to attack, but they’re throwing very little at the Warriors.
Twice the outside defence rushed up and Chad Townsend persevered with the pass, and unsurprisingly neither found the intended receiver.
New Zealand looks the far hungrier team and it’s no surprise they are dominating at the moment.

20th minute - Warriors 16-0
This has been a very sloppy start from the Cowboys.
Another error deep in their own half gives the Warriors prime field position and big front rower Addin Fonua-Blake carries three defenders over the line to extend the lead of the visitors.
That’s so poor. Their defence has been abysmal.
Another mistake in their own half results in another Warriors try.
Kyle Feldt spills it cold and Heilum Luki comes up with one of the worst defensive reads you’ll see to allow Mitch Barnett the easiest of passages to the try line.
It’s a carve up in Townsville.

10th minute - Warriors 4-0
It was almost a horror start for the Cowboys.
Viliami Vailea dropped it cold deep in his own half and the Warriors looked to score the very next set, only to be denied for an obstruction.
North Queensland’s luck ran out a few minutes later, with some poor defence from Valentine Holmes, Braidon Burns and Kulikefu Finefuiaki all missing Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad as he left the trio clutching at thin air.

5PM: North Queensland has been given a massive boost ahead of their huge clash with New Zealand.
Four players will back up from Origin duties, namely Tom Dearden (5/8 $573,200), Valentine Holmes (CTW $684,200), Reuben Cotter (FRF/2RF $615,300) and Jeremiah Nanai (2RF $721,600).
The latter will come off the bench with the other trio straight into the starting 13.
Freddy Lussick (HOK $324,300) is a late inclusion on the bench for the Warriors as they welcome back a host of players from injury.
Captain Tohu Harris (2RF $615,400) will come off the bench and Dylan Walker (5/8/2RF $486,600) is set to start at lock.
TITANS VS RABBITOHS
FULL TIME – Rabbitohs 46-12
That’s a win to remember for South Sydney fans.
A masterclass by Cody Walker and Latrell Mitchell led the Rabbitohs to the win that will lift them off the bottom of the ladder.
A late try to Walker sealed the result before Mitchell nailed a sideline conversion for his 16th individual point of the afternoon.
75th minute – Rabbitohs 40-12
The Rabbitohs hit 40 points as Jack Wighton burrows over from dummy half on fifth tackle. The strength and experience of Wighton was too much for Keano Kini who crumbled in the one-on-one tackle.
Jai Arrow knocked the conversion through the posts for a rare goal.
70th minute – Rabbitohs 34-12
That’s the David Fifita we all know and love.
The rampaging backrower had plenty of work to do from a standing start 15m out, steamrollering Cody Walker on his way over the white line.
Fifita has been one of the Gold Coast’s better players and he will finish with a respectable SuperCoach score to match.
65th minute – Rabbitohs 34-6
The Rabbitohs have scored again through front rower Davvy Moale and the Titans look shell-shocked.
The young prop simply barged over with his strength and the tissue paper Titans goal line defence.
Besides Latrell Mitchell’s triple-digit tally, there aren’t many impressive SuperCoach scores with 15 minutes to play.
55th minute – Rabbitohs 28-6
Latrell Mitchell continues to impress, this time setting up big bopper Tom Burgess for a simple try.
That’s probably goodnight for the Titans even though there’s still almost half an hour to play. They’ve barely fired a shot this afternoon and will need to dig deep if they want to take anything out of this match.
50th minute – Rabbitohs 22-6
South Sydney still have the upper hand and are withstanding everything the Titans can muster up.
Eventually the pressure cracked when another error from a bomb bounces kindly for Michael Chee Kam for the Rabbitohs fifth try of the afternoon. But on closer inspection there was a knock on from South Sydney in the lead-up and the lead remains at 16 points.
Gold Coast fullback Keano Kini has started to inject himself into the action more after halftime, and he looks most likely for the hosts.
HALFTIME – Rabbitohs 22-6
South Sydney have a commanding lead at halftime but it’s not all doom and gloom for the Titans.
A brilliant solo try to speedster Alofiana Khan-Pereira has the Gold Coast winger leading his team’s SuperCoach scoring and another four-pointer just after the break could spark something from his side.
Rabbitohs fullback Latrell Mitchell is repaying anyone who had faith in him this week with 75 SuperCoach points at halftime while five-eighth Cody Walker isn’t far behind with 58.
35th minute – Rabbitohs 22-6
Things are quickly going from bad to worse for the Titans.
An error at the back falls right into Cody Walker’s breadbasket and the veteran half drove his way over the line.
The Gold Coast isn’t strong enough defending in its own half and the Titans are paying the consequences.
Moments earlier, a kick sailed through David Fifita’s fingertips with the tryline begging.
30th minute – Rabbitohs 16-6
Cody Walker and Latrell Mitchell, take a bow.
They made that try look like a training run, using their silky soft hands to put Richie Kennar over on the right edge.
The Gold Coast has worked its way back into the contest but that try killed all the momentum they’ve been building. With 10 minutes remaining in the half, keeping the Rabbitohs to just 16 points is a must.
Saliva Havili pulled up before contact on his charge from the ensuing kick-off, and he had to be helped off the field with a lower leg injury to his left leg.
20th minute – Rabbitohs 10-6
There’s an early candidate for try of the year.
Alofiana Khan-Pereira dashed 60m, weaving between Bunnies defenders to score an individual try for the ages.
Can that moment of brilliance out of nowhere spark something from the Gold Coast? One thing they’ve certainly be able to do this year is score points, and do it quickly.
13th minute – Rabbitohs 10-0
Set restarts are killing the Titans as South Sydney roll through them with their power game.
The Rabbitohs spine is on fire and they’re looking sharp through the early stages of the match.
The Titans are their own worst enemy so far with errors and discipline killing them in the ruck.
10th minute – Rabbitohs 6-0
The Bunnies have opened the scoring after a scrappy start to the game. Damien Cook darted out of dummy half and caugh Keenan Palasia off guard, slicing into the backfield and drawing the fullback before finding his fullback Latrell Mitchell for the opening points.
Mitchell has enjoyed a great start to the game, converting his own try from near the posts.
TEAM NEWS
Titans livewire Jayden Campbell will start at five-eighth with Chris Randall moving to hooker and Sam Verrils dropping to the bench. That forced a bit of a shuffle for Des Hasler’s men, with Beau Fermor starting in the centres, Klese Haas moving to an edge, and Keenan Palasia starting at lock.
It’s a different story for the Rabbitohs, who enter the clash 1-17.
In a blow to many SuperCoaches, Reece Walsh and Nicho Hynes were ruled out early of the Broncos v Sharks clash at Suncorp Stadium.
But this could potentially be good news for players hunting a cheap outside back option.
Tristan Sailor will return from injury to replace Selwyn Cobbo, who will likely move to fullback to cover for Walsh.
