The NRL has released a new video angle on the Joe Burgess decision.

THIS is the new video angle the NRL claims is proof that the decision to disallow a try to South Sydney winger Joe Burgess on Monday night was correct.

“Once his hand comes off the ball he has to catch, hold or grip the ball before it hits the ground — otherwise it is a dropped ball. He can’t just get his fingers back on it,” said an NRL spokesman.

“So once Burgess’ hand came off the ball last night he had to catch it or hold it. He just got his hand back on it. That is not enough. “

The rule states: “A player who has had possession or touches/touched the ball and knocks the ball forward must regain possession (catch, hold or grip) prior to the ball hitting the ground, another player, goal post or cross bar.

“For the ball to be deemed grounded, pressure must be applied by the player’s fingers, hand, wrist, forearm or torso so as to create a reasonable influence on the plane of the ball including the spin, rotation, momentum or bounce.”
