NRL 2024: Izack Tago and Jacob Host both face bans for dangerous tackles

Penrith’s big win over South Sydney has come at a cost with one of their best players charged by the match review committee.

South Sydney’s season from hell is set to get worse with edge forward Jacob Host facing a two-game ban after he was hit with a grade 2 dangerous contact charge from Thursday’s loss to Penrith.

Host was sin binned with 12 minutes to go after he challenged a Brad Schneider kick and made contact with the legs, which is something the NRL is clamping down on to prevent serious injuries like the one Souths half Lachlan Ilias suffered in NSW Cup.

It’s yet another setback for the Rabbitohs who will be without Jye Gray (ankle) and Dean Hawkins (quad) for their game against the Dragons next week.

Meanwhile, the Panthers could be without Izack Tago after the centre was offered a one-game ban for a hip-drop tackle on Gray that forced him out of the game despite bravely playing on.

Tago was sent to the sin bin in the sixth minute and has been slapped with a grade 2 dangerous contact charge.

“He’s been massive. He’s been killing it for us this year,” teammate Sunia Turuva said after the game.

Paul Alamoti is the logical replacement after scoring a try in each of his two games for the Panthers this season.
