HE is a strong favourite to win the award for a fourth time and Cowboys star Johnathan Thurston is now on top of the Dally M leaderboard.

Thurston was superb as he piloted North Queensland to an incredible comeback win against the Eels on Monday night.

The Cowboys playmaker helped his side overturn a 30-6 deficit early in the second half to run out 36-30 winners, and he polled the maximum three Dally M votes to climb to the top of the leaderboard.

Thurston jumped past Round 12 leader Benji Marshall, who had a quiet day at the office as his Dragons were beaten by the Bulldogs earlier on Monday.

Wests Tigers prop Aaron Woods climbed into second spot after polling two votes in his side’s loss to the Gold Coast Titans on Friday night.

Blake Austin’s try-scoring double for the Raiders in their win over Newcastle earned him two votes and saw the in-form Canberra star jump into equal fourth, alongside injured Panthers fullback Matt Moylan.
