Latrell Mitchell, Josh Addo-Carr to face court over firearm charges after coronavirus camping trip

NRL superstars Latrell Mitchell and Josh Addo-Carr have been hit with firearm charges after their now-infamous hunting trip which breached coronavirus public health orders.

NRL stars Latrell Mitchell and Josh Addo-Carr have now been formally charged with firearms offences emerging from the now infamous hunting and camping trip on the NSW mid-north coast.

Mitchell attended Taree police station on Tuesday morning, a day after the pair and Newcastle Knights player Tyronne Roberts-Davis were fined $1000 for breaching COVID-19 health restrictions.

The Rabbitohs superstar surrendered his gun licence and three firearms, including the shotgun which Addo-Carr is alleged to have shot in a video uploaded on social media.

A further three firearms were expected to be seized by police in Sydney.

Mitchell’s gun licence has been formally suspended and he was issued with a future court attendance notice to face a charge of giving a firearm to a person not authorised by a licence or permit.

The charge carries a maximum term of five years in jail Addo-Carr will face a charge of using an unauthorised firearm.

Both players will appear in Taree Local Court on August 4.

Addo-Carr had been warned twice in 11 days for violating COVID-19 restrictions before he was caught for a third time on a weekend camping trip that has thrown the NRL into crisis.

Nathan Cleary became the latest player to be caught up in a social-distancing drama after images on the Penrith halfback emerged with a group of girls.

The NRL are investigating claims Cleary broke social distancing rules on Anzac Day when a group of women visited his western Sydney home.
