Kevin Walters has found a new job following his departure from the Broncos with the former Brisbane coach signing a deal with Fox Sports.
The Brisbane club legend will return to a commentary role for Fox League’s 2025 NRL premiership coverage this season — five months after Walters parted ways with his beloved Broncos.
Walters severed ties with the Broncos in the wake of last year’s turbulent 2024 campaign in which Brisbane crashed from grand finalists to miss the finals in 12th spot following an injury-ravaged season.
Walters was replaced by Michael Maguire as Broncos coach, but the 57-year-old has pivoted quickly with a new career path, inking a deal for a return to Fox League.
Walters will make his return to the Fox commentary box for the first match of the NRL Pre-Season Challenge between Cronulla and Canberra on Thursday night.
“I’m incredibly excited to join the team once again,” Walters said.
“Fox League is coming off the back of its biggest year with 2025 looking to be the same.
“There’s no better time to join the team than now.”
‘Kevvie’ previously spent six years with the network from 2014 to 2020 before standing down from commentating duties to take up his coaching stint at the Broncos, whom he steered to the 2023 grand final.
Walters will be a handy addition to the Fox coverage given his contemporary knowledge of the NRL following his stint at the Broncos, where he won 50 of 99 games during his four-season coaching tenure.
The former Queensland Origin coach went within minutes of breaking Brisbane’s 18-year premiership drought, only for Penrith to break the Broncos’ hearts with a stunning late surge to steal the NRL trophy 26-24.
Walters then endured a torrid 2024 campaign, with key stars Reece Walsh, Payne Haas and Adam Reynolds all suffering a series of injuries as Brisbane crashed out of top-eight contention.
Walters, who won six premierships as a player, joins a line-up of experts, commentators and hosts including Matty Johns, Yvonne Sampson, Braith Anasta, Michael Ennis, Cooper Cronk, Nathan Hindmarsh, Bryan Fletcher and Lara Pitt.
Fox Sports managing director Steve Crawley said Walters’ down-to-earth style would be a smash hit with viewers.
“Kevvie is one of the greats of the game,” Crawley said.
“His ability is matched by his great sense of humour.
“We love him – the fans love him.
“We’re tickled pink to have him back on board.”
Walters remains tied to Brisbane as a club ambassador and the Broncos will launch their pre-season trials with a hitout against Burleigh on Saturday night at Pizzey Park.
