Kangaroos captain Cameron Smith target of social media GOAT prank

AUSTRALIAN rugby league captain Cameron Smith has been targeted by some friendly social media fire from within the Kangaroos camp ahead of his 50th Test.

AUSTRALIAN rugby league captain Cameron Smith has been targeted by some friendly social media fire from within the Kangaroos camp ahead of his 50th Test on Friday night.

Smith appears to be the victim of a Twitter prank after a Tweet from Smith’s official account on Wednesday night featured as series of emojis including raised hands and a goat loosely meaning “All hail the GOAT – (greatest of all time)’’.

The Melbourne Storm and Queensland Origin star was quick to hose down any suggestion that he was the author of the Tweet which received a mixed reaction.

“Sorry guys left my phone out last night - post obviously NOT done by me,’’ Smith wrote.

Smith made his Test debut in 2006 and moves one step closer to the record 59-Test mark set by former teammate Darren Lockyer when he leads the Kangaroos out for the Anzac Test clash with New Zealand in Canberra.

It will be the 27th time he has captained Australia – equalling the number of Tests that the iconic Clive Churchill enjoyed as Kangaroos skipper.

Smith, who has since deleted the GOAT Tweet, will have a gold kangaroo chevron embroided on his jersey on Friday night.

An initiative of coach Mal Meninga, players who reach 20 Tests for Australia will have a white kangaroo chevron on their sleeves, 30 Tests will be marked by bronze, 40 by silver and 50 by gold.
