Jarome Luai’s father has joked he’s been banned from social media in the wake of his controversial post on Sunday afternoon.

Martin Luai sent Tigers fans into overdrive with a social media post following their horror 64-0 loss to the Storm.

Taking to Instagram in a since deleted post, Martin wrote “Get out clause activated” alongside a pair of emojis.

The post was in reference to a get out clause in his son’s contract, having signed a $6 million deal until the end of 2029 ahead of the 2025 season.

However, that contract includes an option which would allow him to hit the open market come November 1, departing the Tigers after their 2026 campaign.

Martin was back on social media on Monday, joking that the “banter” had got him in trouble with his wife.

He said he would have to start using Bebo, a social media platform from the early 2000s that ceased in 2022.

“Sorry friends and family, my wife has banned me from further banter on Insta … #isbebostillathing?,” Martin joked on Instagram.

The initial post will do nothing to settle the nerves of Tigers fans, however the gun halfback has previously made his intentions clear regarding his future.

“When it came out, I hadn’t even played a game in the colours yet and I’m already getting spoken about. But I’m used to that already and it doesn’t faze me at all,” he said in January.

“I’ve got a point to prove here – not to anyone else but to myself – and I want to see what I can do on the field with these boys.”

Benji Marshall, meanwhile, was scathing of his team’s performance in Round 10.

“We’ve got to be better than that,” Marshall said.

“We’ve built standards that we want to live by, and today we didn’t live by any of them.

“So everyone’s disappointed, embarrassed. Probably a few other words you could use, but it’s not good enough. There’s losing the game, and then there’s being beaten, and we got actually beat today.

“We’ve got a team that usually fights for everything, and I just didn’t see the same fight today.

“So in the balance of our season, we’re five and five now. Reflect where we are, and we’ve got to learn from it, and we’ve got to get back up for next week.

“We can’t dwell on that. You can hurt from it, take the hurt into next week, and we can improve, but we can’t dwell on it and take it into next week.”

Skipper Api Koroisau also believed the heavy loss was a reality check for an improving Tigers outfit.

“We’ve had a couple of wins, but I guess when you’re going good, you’re never as good as you think you are,” Koroisau said.

“So for us, it’s all about looking at our prep and the way we’re rocking up the games.”
