Sea Eagles five-eighth Luke Brooks isn’t predicting “too much of a hangover from Vegas” when his side takes on the Warriors across the ditch, with the hosts keen to prove a point after they left Sin City empty-handed.
The Warriors were one of the most disappointing teams in round 1 but have had 12 days to sort things out following their 30-8 loss to the Raiders.
The halves were criticised for not creating enough in attack, while their defence on the edges was picked apart by the Green Machine.
And while the Warriors’ form may be an issue, Brooks doesn’t expect fatigue to play too much of a factor despite the hectic travel to America and back.
The Sea Eagles did it 12 months ago but there were a few differences – they had 14 days between games and they got to play another team that went to Vegas in round 2.
Manly came out all guns blazing to bash the Roosters, but the travel caught up with them in their next two games as they faded late against the Eels before they produced their sloppiest 80 minutes to go down to the Dragons.
“We played here in round 2 and we were able to get back up for it,” Brooks said outside 4 Pines Park.
“It was the next week where we didn’t have our best game.
“I think they’ll be fired up because of the performance they put up in Vegas. They’re back at home now, so we’re expecting them to come out firing.
“I don’t think it’ll be too hard for them to get up for this game. I don’t think there’ll be too much of a hangover from Vegas.”
The Sea Eagles are coming off a huge win over the Cowboys that Brooks says is the best round 1 performance he’s been a part of.
“It was one of those games where everything clicked,” he said.
“I felt like we had the ball the whole first 10 minutes, and when you look at the players we have, that’s going to be hard to defend for 10 minutes straight.”
Tom Trbojevic and Daly Cherry-Evans pulled the strings and winger Jason Saab made five line breaks in his first game back from a serious ankle injury.
The towering winger now gets to take on the fleet-footed Roger Tuivasa-Sheck in what should be a terrific battle out wide.
“I don’t really think too much about the fact it’s Roger and he has great feet,” he said.
“I just focus on the normal parts of the game. I just do all the stuff they teach me at training.
“It doesn’t matter who you’re going up against, you just do your best, but it’s a good challenge. If I can defend someone with feet like that then I should be all right.”
