Sydney Roosters forward Terrell May has landed in hot water after a seemingly insensitive remark in the aftermath of State of Origin game I.

May’s teammate Joseph Sua’ali’i became just the sixth — and easily the fastest — send off in State of Origin history after laying out Broncos fullback Reece Walsh in a brutal hit just seven minutes into the match.

Sua’ali’i broke his silence on Thursday, taking to Instagram to post: “Mixed emotions. Disappointed let my brothers, fam n state down. Blessed and honoured to put the blue jersey on. #311

“Onto the next.”

While he was met with plenty of support from club and state teammates, May replied: “HIS [sic] DEAD” in a response that quickly took off.

Massive hit sees Reece Walsh suffer a concussion

Some fans hit back at May, branding the comment “out of pocket”, while another fan called him a “gronk”.

Another took aim at May’s spelling, to which the Roosters prop replied: “Have fun at work bum hehehehe.”

The commenter replied: “I love my job, I will thank you.”

The comment channels Jarome Luai’s infamous post where he said: “Chill. All you idiots have work tomorrow morning,” along with seven crying laughing emojis after the Blues’ 32-6 loss to Queensland in game II of the 2023 series.

But plenty more were calling for May to get a call up to Origin himself.

May was just one of several players to respond to the post from Sua’ali’i.

The likes of Nathan Cleary, James Tedesco, Josh Addo-Carr, Stephen Crichton, Angus Crichton, Brian To’o and even controversial cross-code star Israel Folau were among them, to name just a few.

While it may seem particularly insensitive considering Walsh was knocked out for an extended period of time, the Maroons fullback finished the match sitting on the sidelines.

Queensland are said to still be furious over the incident, with coach Billy Slater refusing to speak on the topic.

Slater's testy response to send-off question

However, he did reveal Walsh was alright after full-time.

“(Reece) seems to be OK now. He didn’t look too good on the field. But he seems to be OK in the sheds,” Slater said in his press conference.

Walsh watched most of the game from the sideline however and had a sweet moment where he hugged his daughter Leila in the crowd.

Speaking on Thursday, Walsh didn’t appear to hold a grudge against Sua’ali’i.

“He got me flush on the chin I think,” Walsh said.

“It’s all part of the game, it was a good hit. Just got to keep rolling with the punches.

“I don’t really want to comment too much on that (punishment for Suaalii) side, I’ll let other people take care of that.

“At the end of the day you make a decision and you’ve got to live with it.”

While Walsh didn’t play a key part, the Maroons proved too strong for the 12-man Blues as they claimed the 38-10 victory on Wednesday night.

Walsh will miss his next two games for the Broncos, but is expected to be fine to play for Queensland at the MCG in three weeks.
