Brisbane captain Alex Glenn has suffered a fresh setback in his recovery from a hamstring injury which could rule out the backrower longer than expected.
It comes after the 31-year-old was left out of the 21-man squad for the Broncos blockbuster season opener against the Cowboys in Townsville on Friday night.
Brisbane coach Anthony Seibold revealed Glenn had suffered the setback to his hamstring rehabilitation during training last week.

“We were hoping he may at least be a chance (for Round 1), but a little minor hiccup with his rehab running last Friday,” Seibold said.
“This is Round 1 of a 24-round season and although you want to start the season well with a high-level performance, I think it’s important that Lexi (Glenn) feels confident he can play and get through the game without feeling hindered by his hamstring.
“We’ll keep him in rehab. The medical staff will let us know when he’s fit to play.”
Glenn opened up to The Courier-Mail about the “frustrating” hamstring injury which has robbed him of leading the team out for the Round 1 clash.
The Kayo ambassador said he was disappointed to miss the clash but was not prepared to rush back into footy and jeopardise the rest of his season.

“It sucks because the thought of not leading the boys out in Round 1, as my first year as captain, it’s sort of a bit of a downer,” Glenn said.
“I did the whole pre-season unscathed and was training at my best. It’s the fittest I’ve felt, the strongest I’ve felt.
“To come two weeks into the season kicking off, it’s just set me back a little bit. It’s very, very frustrating.
“(But) I need to be smart. I can’t be a leader or a captain if I’m not out on that field with the boys.”
Glenn first suffered the injury in the week leading up to the Perth Nines before aggravating it against the Cowboys in their trial match in Cairns.
