THE Brisbane Broncos have appointed Ivan Henjak as their coach to replace Wayne Bennett - a day after losing out on the Melbourne Storm's Craig Bellamy.
Henjak has accepted a two-year contract and will make his NRL coaching debut for the six-time premiers next season when Bennett ends his 21-year reign at the club.
Henjak's appointment comes hard on the heels of Bellamy's decision to sign a new multi-million dollar deal with Melbourne Storm.
Bennett will officially terminate the NRL's longest one-club coaching stint when he heads to St George Illawarra after 21 seasons at the helm of the Broncos.
Henjak has been Bennett's assistant since 2006, and has been involved with the Broncos since 1994.
