TE MAIRE Martin has excelled in his initiation to the NRL, now the Panthers have rewarded the rookie five-eighth with a $10,000 debut bonus.

The Sunday Telegraph can reveal Martin received a handsome five-figure reward for his matchwinning performance against the Broncos in Round 3.

This sum comes on top of the $3000 match payment for each of his four NRL appearances, meaning the Kiwi-born playmaker will pocket approximately $19,000 if you include Sunday’s clash against Parramatta Pirtek Stadium.

For all the excitement surrounding Martin, the refreshingly humble half isn’t motivated by money.

He was already signed to a healthy contract for a kid yet to play in the NRL and is just happy to get a start in first-grade due to injury.

Martin’s standout start to his NRL career has justified Phil Gould head hunting the former Wests Tigers NYC sensation.

Gould played a major role in convincing the prestigious talent to join the club when he was seriously considering moves to the Cowboys and Storm to learn from Queensland Origin stars Johnathan Thurston and Cooper Cronk.

Luckily for Penrith, Martin chose the Panthers and they are now receiving the benefits big time.

Just ask veteran half Jamie Soward, who says his willing to walk away from the club when his current deal expires next season just to see the rookie sensation thrive in first-grade.

“I’m not going to play on in 2018 holding on to my glory days if this kid is killing it,” Soward said.

“Like Gus (Gould) said, Te will tell us when he is ready to lead the team around and at the moment he is playing six and playing fantastic.

“We all want Te to play 250 games at Penrith and hopefully I can have something to do with that at the start.

“It’s not about my time now though. It’s about the next five and ten years and we want the Panthers to be a team that’s regularly competing for titles, but also the most talked about sporting brand in Australia.

“The facilities that we’ve got started that and blokes like Te are going to continue that culture on so we are competitive for the next five years.”
