Papua New Guinea v Fiji
Saturday 5:35pm, Pirtek Stadium
FIJI WARRIOR
The Fijian National Rugby League is known at the Bati, referring to the traditional Fijian warriors. They have been participating in international competition since 1992 and are currently ranked seventh in the RLIF World Rankings.
ONE AND ONLY
Papua New Guinea is the only country in the world that considers rugby league as its national sport.
LAST-START WINNER
These two teams met at this stage of last season at Robina, with Fiji running out dominant 22-10 winners.
NRL PLAYERS
Fiji have named a relatively strong team with 12 players with NRL experience including eight who have played first grade this season (Tyrone Phillips, Brayden Wiliame, Akuila Uate, Korbin Sims, Daniel Saifiti, Kane Evans, Eloni Vunakece and Kevin Naiqama). PNG have named four players with NRL experience, including three (David Mead, Nene Macdonald and Kurt Baptiste) who have played this season.
Samoa v Tonga
Saturday 7:40pm, Pirtek Stadium
SAMOA
The Samoan National Rugby League team is known as Toa Samoa, Toa meaning warriors, brave or to be courageous. They have competed in international competition since 1988, originally known as Western Samoa and are currently ranked fourth in the RLIF World Rankings.
TONGA
The Tonga National Rugby League team is known as Mate Ma’a Tonga, the literal translation of which is “I would die for Tonga”. Tonga has competed in international competition since 1988 and is currently ranked 16th in the RLIF World Rankings
LINE UP
Both teams have named relatively strong line-ups full of players with NRL experience, with Erin Clark (Warriors) the only player from either team yet to play first grade. Tonga has nine players in their starting line-up who have played NRL football this season while Samoa’s 11 of 13 starting line-up have played NRL in 2016.
City v Country
Sunday 4:10pm, Tamworth
HEAD TO HEAD
Since City v Country began in 1987, from a total of 26 matches City has won 13, Country have won 11, with two draws. However, City have won just one of their past six Origins with Country winning four and the other ending in a draw. Draw: $21
HIGH SCORING AFFAIR
The winning team has scored at least 18 points in six of the past seven matches (one draw).
LUCKY 16
City have won seven of eight matches when conceding 16 points or less, the only exception was 2006 when they were defeated 12-10 in Dubbo.
OPPOSITE ENDS
City has scored the opening try in six of the past nine matches. However Country have scored the last try in six of these nine matches.
Betting summary: City will start their longest price ever with TAB. The money is pretty evenly split in the head to head market.
