Dylan Napa won’t get to terrorise NSW as Kevin Walters insists he won’t reverse Origin ban

KEVIN Walters is adamant Queensland won’t backflip on the decision to ban Roosters hitman Dylan Napa and Broncos sensation Anthony Milford from Origin this year.

KEVIN Walters is adamant Queensland won’t backflip on the decision to ban Roosters hitman Dylan Napa and Broncos sensation Anthony Milford from State of Origin this year.

And Walters has the backing of Mal Meninga who also said the Emerging Origin camp controversy will knock Napa and Milford out of Kangaroo contention for the upcoming Anzac Test.

Walters also gave his strongest indication yet that Greg Inglis could moving back to the centres for Origin this year with Darius Boyd at fullback _ and what Meninga does in the Test against the Kiwis on May 6 will likely impact on Queensland’s final decision.

The haste to impose a year-long ban on the eight players who broke curfew at an Emerging Origin camp earlier this year could come back to bite the Maroons.

Napa produced one of the best performances by a prop in recent memory with his brutal and inspirational effort in the Roosters’ win over Souths last Friday night.

While Milford is seen as the next superstar of the game, and he’s been in blinding form for the Broncos again this year.

But asked by Maroons’ legend Gorden Tallis on Triple M if there was any way he would backflip in the wake of Napa’s dominant battle with Sam Burgess, Walters laughed: “Ahhhh, no. No chance Gorden.

“I got so excited watching him play because obviously is a good young talent but unfortunately he won’t be part of this year’s series.

“But down the track, long-term, he is a great prospect for Queensland.”

Meninga wrote in his Queensland Courier Mail column last week that he backed the ban.

Meanwhile, even though Inglis played fullback last year in Billy

Slater’s absence, Walters strangely indicated it might cause less disruption to the team if Boyd wears the No 1 jumper.

While Inglis has been trying his heart out for Souths this year, there is still a concern his nagging knee injury is limiting his impact in attack.

“I’m happy with either,” Walters told Triple M.

“It is not like we are trying to dig around and try and find a player to fill the position that Billy Slater has left open.

“But the big problem for Queensland I suppose, well not problem but issue is, if Inglis does go back to fullback then it is a big reshuffle of our backline basically. Whereas if Boyd went back there you’d just have to find one player.”

And while Walters said he would speak to both players to get their input, what Meninga does with his Australian side could make the decision easier.

“We will let Mal do his thing but it is probably a good interlude as to what may happen with the Queensland side,” Walters added.

“Because if he does go with Darius Boyd at fullback that would put Greg Inglis at left centre, that is like a trial run for us in the Origin side.”
