QUEENSLAND’S State of Origin defence is well and truly on track if the form of key players is taken into account.

This year we’re asking NRL fans to rate Broncos, Cowboys and Titans players out of 10 each week and some of the key Origin players scored high ratings in round 8.

It all started with the Broncos’ narrow loss to the South Sydney Rabbitohs at Suncorp Stadium last Friday night when Test backrowers Matt Gillett and Corey Parker caught the fans’ eyes.

Gillett scored a nine from 33 per cent of respondents and an eight from another 26 per cent while Parker rated an eight.

Maroon-in-waiting Andrew McCullough again starred with two tries and a game-high 54 tackles. The Broncos hooker got a nine from 31 per cent of fans, an eight from 24 per cent and a perfect 10 from 20 per cent.

Winger Daniel Vidot, who ran for 163m, also did well in the ratings, scoring an eight.

In Townsville last Saturday night, Queensland five-eighth Johnathan Thurston gave a masterclass in the Cowboys’ big win over the Eels.

Fans rewarded him with nine (35 per cent), eight (30 per cent) and 10 (26 per cent) ratings while his Maroons team-mate Matt Scott scored a nine (41 per cent).

The Titans scored an important and rare win over the Wests Tigers at Leichhardt Oval and fringe Maroon Dave Taylor got the nod from fans with an eight from 48 per cent of respondents.

Blues hardman Greg Bird got an eight from 38 per cent while NSW-eligible Aidan Sezer was rated a nine by 31 per cent of fans.

No NRL games this weekend, so the rankings will start again in round 9.
