Out-of-favour Parramatta winger Bevan French is open to changing clubs before the June 30 transfer deadline, with a number of NRL rivals expressing interest.

It was only two seasons ago when French was considered one of the league’s most promising flyers — now he’s fighting to save his career.

French, 23, has been relegated to reserve-grade ranks with the Wentworthville Magpies because of the form of wingers Maika Sivo and Blake Ferguson. He hasn’t played an NRL game in 2019.

To his credit, French has performed strongly for the Magpies, with eight tries in eight games to start the season.

His form hasn’t gone unnoticed by teams, including North Queensland, Canterbury and the Gold Coast.

The Cowboys have made inquiries about French being released by Parramatta before the June 30 deadline.

North Queensland are playing Jordan Kahu at fullback and they’ve shown interest in Penrith speedster Dylan Edwards as a back-up should Valentine Holmes succeed in his NFL stint with the New York Jets, which would rule him out of a NRL return.

French has also received attention from a number of English Super League clubs, although his preference is to remain in the NRL.

That is not to say that he won’t consider other sports.

Rugby Sevens have made inquiries about French, but have yet to make any official contact.

French also hasn’t ruled out staying at the Eels, depending on the futures of fellow backs Clint Gutherson and Mitchell Moses.

Gutherson wants a four-year deal and Parramatta are unwilling to budge on their three-year offer worth $650,000 a season.

Moses is also yet to commit to the Eels as he weighs up interest from a number of rival clubs, including Brisbane.

If Moses or Gutherson depart Parramatta, it could open the door for French, who is a proven NRL player despite his reserve grade demotion.

The two-time indigenous All-Star burst on to the scene in 2016 with a remarkable 19 tries in 13 games.

French’s management will meet with him in the coming weeks to discuss his options.
