MANLY skipper Daly Cherry-Evans has not escaped punishment for his role in the altercation with Jackson Hastings in Gladstone during Round 5, fined $10,000 by the club.

The altercation involving Hastings and Cherry-Evans resulted in the young utility being ostracised from the playing group and relegated to feeder team Blacktown but it has become clear in recent days that he was not solely to blame.

Players such as Addin Fonua-Blake and Brad Parker spoke out in favour of Hastings and his place in the squad but it remains whether to be seen if the former Rooster will be readmitted to the NRL playing group following the completion of the club’s investigation.

An altercation on the training field in the lead-up to the side’s 32-20 loss to the Titans carried forward when the players attended Gladstone strip club on the Sunday night and then flared up even further at the team hotel later that night.

Painted as an agitator who had trouble fitting into a team environment, Hastings now has cause to request reinstatement, Manly CEO Lyall Gorman admonishing both players for their conduct.

“Daly has unreservedly accepted the Club’s findings and sanction and has taken full responsibility for his involvement in these matters,’’ Gorman said in a club statement released on Saturday.

“The incidents that unfolded in Gladstone fall massively short of our Club’s expectations, culture and values and are regrettable in the extreme.

“They in no way reflect what we stand for and have let our club, our playing group, our corporate partners, our members, supporters and our community at large down.

“While we must move on and focus on the season ahead, we will continue to work intensely with all members of our playing group and management to ensure that the lessons of these incidents serve as an absolute reminder of the responsibilities and accountabilities that are incumbent upon all involved in our club, on and off the field.”
