MATT Scott is fit to make a remarkable grand final cameo for the Cowboys.
Scott could play his first game in more than 200 days in next Sunday’s premiership decider against the Storm at ANZ Stadium.
The Cowboys qualified for their second grand final in three years by upsetting the Roosters 29-16 at Allianz Stadium.
Scott ruptured his ACL in North Queensland’s derby win against the Broncos in round 2.
It was thought the Test and Maroons prop would miss the entire season, however he has made a remarkable recovery to put himself in the frame for selection.
“It’s a massive decision,” injured Cowboys co-captain Johnathan Thurston told Channel 9.
“He’s fit to play. He had his boots and was going to warm up.
“If one of the boys had of broke down then certainly he would have been a chance.
“It’s a big decision for the coaching staff to make. He’s a leader of our club.
“He’s played so many games.”
Cowboys coach Paul Green on Saturday night opted to stay loyal to the team that had helped North Queensland to the premiership decider but the Storm are a different prospect.
Melbourne blew Brisbane away with big men Jordan McLean, Jesse Bromwich and Nelson Asofa-Solomona powering through the Broncos’ smaller pack.
Scott would bring a 109kg frame to the equation and 233 games of NRL experience.
If Scott is to return, Green must make an agonising decision to leave one of his performing players out.
Rookie Corey Jensen looks most likely to make way but it would be a heartbreaking decision after he made his NRL debut this year and played 16 games.
“We’ll worry about that next week,” Green said.
“Tonight was a great win. Let’s enjoy the win for what it was and we’ll talk about next week next week.
“The boys that are there have done a fantastic job to put us in this position.”
