NSW Police are investigating a wild brawl that broke out in Tamworth in regional NSW last weekend allegedly involving players from rival country rugby league teams.

A phone camera has caught segments of the fight, which features up to 20 people taking part in the brawl that spilt onto Peel Street, the town’s main road, last Saturday night.

The hugely successful local NSWRL side North Tamworth Bears faced the Woy Woy Roosters in a trial match earlier that day.

The brawl, which you can see in the video player above, is alleged to have initiated at the local Courthouse Hotel, which sponsors the Bears.

North Tamworth has denied any of its players took part in the brawl.

In the footage, a shirtless man knocks another man to the ground and is then set upon by three others.

He then responds by laying a tackle on another participant, slamming him into the road.

A woman can be heard imploring one of the participants to “hit him, hit him, hit him”.

Another person who may be filming the melee then says “f**k, f**k, f**k, f**k, f**k”.

It all then descends into chaos, with a number of women also seen taking part in the fray, with one launching a handbag as a projectile.

That woman is later seen on the ground, while another person right next to her is kicked on the ground.

Three men wearing the same pink polo top who may be security guards appear to be trying fairly unsuccessfully to break up the action.

There are also reports of another video which news.com.au has not seen featuring a man dancing on a table with his pants around his ankles inside the Courthouse Hotel right before the brawl erupted.

Police were called and used pepper spray to disperse the crowd, with no reports of injuries from the brawl.

NSW Police released a statement about the incidents.

“About 2.30am on Saturday, emergency services were called to Peel Street, Tamworth, following reports of a brawl,” a police statement read.

“Upon arrival, police observed approximately 20 people fighting in the roadway, before OC spray was used and the group dispersed.

“Given the alleged incident did not take place at a rugby league game or a rugby league function, it is a matter for the police.

“The NSWRL will provide any assistance required if the matter is investigated by the police.”

Any players found to be involved would potentially face lengthy suspensions.

The North Tamworth Bears are one of the most successful clubs in the local Group 4 competition, winning 23 first grade premierships, including the last eight straight.
