Canberra Raiders NRL young gun Jacob Iosefa released from intensive care after motor vehicle accident

Canberra Raiders management issued a statement on Monday revealing an update which will delight all rugby league fans.

Rising Canberra centre Jacob Iosefa has regained consciousness and been released from intensive care after being involved in a horrific car accident last week.

Iosefa was fighting for life after his car clipped a truck on a Riverina highway between Wagga Wagga and Canberra last Monday night.

A centre in the club’s SG Ball side, Iosefa was placed in an induced coma inside Canberra Hospital’s ICU with a fractured neck and bleeding on the brain.

Raiders management issued a statement on Monday revealing an update which will delight all rugby league fans.

“The Canberra Raiders can provide an update on Raiders SG Ball player Jacob Iosefa following his accident last week,” the statement read.

“In some good news for Jacob and his family, he has regained consciousness and has been released from the Intensive Care Unit.

“He continues to undergo observation at Canberra Hospital and will remain there for an indefinite period.

“The Raiders and Jacob’s family would like to thank everyone for their continued support and make a special mention to the wonderful staff at Ronald McDonald House Canberra for their ongoing support for Jacob’s family.”

The Canberra Raiders can provide an update on Raiders SG Ball player Jacob Iosefa following his accident last week.

Jacob has been released from the Intensive Care Unit. He continues to undergo observation at Canberra Hospital and will remain there for an indefinite period.

Doctors were last week attempting to stabilise Iosefa’s bleeding through sedation.

Canberra played the Dolphins in Wagga Wagga last Saturday week. Coincidentally, Iosefa was also in Wagga visiting family.

The car accident occurred when Iosefa was driving home to Canberra for Raiders related business on Monday.

It is understood Iosefa’s car clipped a truck while overtaking. Iosefa was travelling alone.

Iosefa played predominantly in the centres during this season’s under-19s SG Ball competition and secured a two-year contract.

Canberra reached the finals before losing to eventual champions, Parramatta.

A Gofundme page, set up to raise money for Iosefa’s on-going medical treatment, has raised nearly $20,000.
