UPDATE: BRISBANE rookie Jamayne Isaako became an NRL hero on Friday night, producing a remarkable hat-trick of magical plays to steal a 9-7 victory in a golden-point thriller against the Wests Tigers.

In an extra-time epic at Campbelltown, the Broncos overcame the loss of Corey Oates (hip) and Tevita Pangai Jr (hamstring) as Isaako showed veins of ice with a match-winning 87th-minute penalty goal.

The finish was laced with controversy, with the Broncos handed a penalty in the second period of golden point when Tigers forward Robbie Rochow was ruled not to be square at marker.

FIVE THINGS: A new Broncos star is born

In just his fourth NRL game, Isaako duly potted the 29-metre penalty from in front, sealing a dramatic win as irate Tigers fans booed referees Ashley Klein and Matt Noyen.

“It was a bit crazy,” Broncos coach Wayne Bennett said.

“Jamayne did it under pressure, we know what he brings and that’s why he’s in first grade.”

The Broncos were staring at defeat as the Tigers clung to a 6-4 lead with three minutes to play when Isaako was sensationally thrust into the spotlight.

The 21-year-old Kiwi levelled scores at 6-all with a penalty in the 78th minute, then stepped up just 60 seconds later to snap a field goal to give the Broncos a 7-6 lead.

Remarkably, the drama continued, Tigers half Luke Brooks snapping a one-pointer with 42 seconds to play to breathe life into a scrappy affair that hurtled into extra-time.

Amid the madness, Isaako was The Iceman _ literally putting the boot into the Tigers to snap their unbeaten streak and deliver Brisbane’s second consecutive win.

“It’s important you win those close games,” Bennett said. “We are doing something right. It’s a vital win, it doesn’t have to be pretty sometimes.”

When Brisbane were awarded a penalty 30 metres out at 6-4, Broncos skipper Darius Boyd walked over to Isaako and uttered four words _ can you kick it?

“He said yes,” Boyd said. “I know he is a good kicker and he was confident, he wanted to do it.”

The grinding win came at a cost, with Oates and Pangai Jr both likely to miss tomorrow week’s derby against the Titans.

“Tevita has done his hamstring and Corey has done a hip flexor,” Bennett said. “It’s not a bad tear but they could both miss next week.”

It is hard to say which team deserved victory last night. But if NRL games are sometimes decided by luck, Brisbane got the rub of the green.

On a night of grit and grind, the contest was always likely to be decided by just one moment. Isaako stepped up with the Power of One.
