Kennedy Cherrington a chance to play round one, Brisbane Broncos cop knee injury to Shenae Ciesiolka

The Parramatta Eels have hope that star Kennedy Cherrington will be available for their season opener, while the Broncos have been dealt another blow. Latest injury news here

"NEED to be playing NRLW!"

Parramatta star Kennedy Cherrington will be pushing to start the NRLW season on July 3 after scans revealed a knee injury she suffered in State of Origin III isn’t as bad as first feared.

The NSW forward is expected to miss up to four weeks with a partial PCL tear after being taken from the field in the second half of Thursday’s State of Origin finale in Newcastle.

The news is a relief for the in form Eels star who forced her way back into the Blues side this year after missing the end of last season with an LCL injury.

The latest setback has been known to sidelines players for anywhere between a fortnight and six weeks, although the Eels are hopeful she will be fit to play Cronulla in the NRLW season opener at Sharks Stadium.

Meanwhile, Star Queensland centre Rory Owen has been cleared to return to Eels training after missing Origin III with an infection in her jaw which has since healed.

BRONCOS CONFIRM MCL INJURY FOR STAR CENTRE

Brisbane have been dealt another blow ahead of the NRLW season with scans confirming centre Shenae Ciesiolka ruptured her MCL during Queensland’s State of Origin win in Newcastle last week.

The Broncos are counting the cost of the Origin series after losing fullback Tamika Upton to a few weeks of pre-season training with a hip injury she suffered in game two.

But while Upton is expected to be fine for round one on July 5, Ciesiolka could be sidelined for at least the first few weeks of the season.

The 27-year-old was taken off at halftime and didn’t return for the Maroons, with follow up tests finding a ruptured MCL ligament that could sideline her for up to three months.

The Broncos confirmed the news on Tuesday, saying she will now work with a specialist to determine what her return to play looks like.

Destiny Brill was also sent to hospital with suspected broken ribs in the second half of Queensland’s 18-14 win over NSW, but the club said they will be guided by pain levels at training over the next few weeks.

It comes a month out from the start of the NRLW season, with the Broncos scheduled to face Wests Tigers in the first round at Totally Workwear Stadium.
