Brisbane Broncos consider loaning young gun Blake Mozer to NRL rivals

Brisbane Broncos are considering loaning out rising star Blake Mozer to a rival club next season despite recently re-signing the young hooker on a two-year deal.

Fresh from re-signing with the Broncos, boom youngster Blake Mozer may be on the move as early as next year.

It is understood the Broncos have discussed allowing Mozer to be loaned out to a rival club next season as they look to not only fast-track his development but ease the salary cap burden on the club.

Mozer only inked a two-year extension to remain at Brisbane in June but they have a log-jam of dummy halves on their books for next season.

While Brisbane still see Mozer as their long-term hooker, they would be open to their 2024 rookie of the year fast-tracking his NRL experience elsewhere.

It would be a similar path to that of Harry Grant who was loaned out by the Storm to the Tigers for one season after struggling for NRL time at Melbourne because of Cameron Smith.

Mozer made his NRL debut in the final round of the 2023 season before playing eight games last year.

He is yet to feature in the top grade this year and is sidelined with a broken jaw.

The Broncos have Ben Hunt and Billy Walters contracted for next year but will lose some dummy half depth with Cory Paix off-contract and Tyson Smoothy joining Wakefield.

Paix will start at hooker for the Broncos against Newcastle on Sunday with Walters and Hunt featuring in the halves while Smoothy is off the bench.

Youngster Cameron Bukowski is also off-contract. The Broncos have let experienced half Jock Madden return the Tigers next season but have added Cowboys halfback Tom Duffy.

The Storm are also considering allowing Jonah Pezet to be loaned out for 12 months as he searches for more first grade exposure. Pezet is stuck behind Cameron Munster and Jahrome Hughes.
