Broncos CEO Paul White has emphasised to the entire Brisbane playing group the club’s expectation of a top four finish this year.

The Broncos officially kicked off their 2020 season on Thursday night at The Fortitude Music Hall in Brisbane.

Family, friends and former players helped celebrate the season launch ahead of next week’s Round 1 clash with the Cowboys in Townsville on Friday.

White began his first address of the year to the club’s players, staff and fans by reinforcing the expectation of a top four finish this season.

“As we launch our journey for the 2020 season, I certainly know we are all filled with hope, anticipation and expectation,” White said.

“It’s the perfect set of emotions to be carrying with us as we gather tonight.

“We don’t need to be reminded of expectations, we place them on ourselves long before they are observed and reported.

“Name another club in Australian sport who articulates our performance target of a top four finish as clearly and consistently as our club.

“To do that, you need a plan – a plan for this year and a plan for the years ahead and I can assure you that your club is well positioned in both areas.”

The powerhouse club was forced to deal with several off-field incidents over the pre-season break, including David Fifita’s Bali arrest and Joe Ofahengaue’s drink-driving charge.

Promising young talent Izaia Perese was also stood down after being charged by police on drug charges.

On top of that, the club is dealing with a string of injuries, which includes new club captain Alex Glenn (hamstring).

Boom front-rower Matt Lodge also remains sidelined indefinitely with a partial ACL tear he suffered several weeks ago.

White admitted “the glare of scrutiny is a constant for the Broncos” but was confident the club could handle the challenges.

“I am proud of the efforts of our entire team at the Broncos over the off season,” White said.

“Our squad has given a total commitment to building a base we hope will be a reference point for our season.

“Are we ready? That test is coming, and I am looking forward to it.

“The only answer I have tonight is that everyone at the Broncos remains 100 per cent committed to our club and we are ready to go.”
