COWBOYS prop Ashton Sims says Fijian teammate Semi Radradra will not be a one-season wonder as his side prepares to halt the 'Semi Trailer' on Saturday night in Townsville.
Parramatta flyer Radradra has surged to the top of the NRL's tryscoring list with 10 in just seven games, evoking images of Canberra's Fiji wing legend Noa Nadruku.
The 105kg wrecking ball has 15 tries from 14 career games and is primed to terrorise a Cowboys right-side defence headlined by Maroons veteran Brent Tate.
If anyone can appreciate Radradra's raw power, it is the equally hulking Sims. The 109kg bookend played alongside Radradra for Fiji in last year's World Cup and is adamant the 21-year-old will torment NRL opponents for years to come.
He just hopes the Semi Trailer doesn't get out of first gear on Saturday night.
“If Semi keeps a level head, which I believe he will, he will be dynamite for a long time in the NRL,” said Sims, who could team with Radradra for Fiji's Four Nations qualifier against Samoa next Saturday night.
“He's only young so if he keeps his head down and works hard, there's no reason why he can't have a successful career.
“I knew he would make an impact in the NRL. I played with him in the World Cup for Fiji and I know what he's capable of so it's no real surprise to me.
“He's going great guns – we're definitely going to have our work cut out trying to stop him.”
While the former Fijian sevens rugby star is still learning rugby league's rules, Sims says Radradra's work ethic will ensure his long-term survival in the NRL.
“The first time I came across Semi was at the World Cup and just watching how big, quick and skilful is from close up, it really impressed me,” he said.
“He's not afraid to take the tough runs in the middle and take on the forwards, he's got a lot of ticker and he's one guy who gets a set of six off to a really good start.
“Semi is a real professional. I watched him go about his business and he's low-maintenance, he does the little things right and that's why he will go to the next level as an NRL player.”
