Ben Hunt rated a nine in Fans Favourite survey; Titan Albert Kelly scores well, too

IT’S taken a while but halfback Ben Hunt has started winning over Broncos fans.

Hunt was the standout in the Broncos’ heartbreaking loss to the Roosters last Friday night and his efforts were recognised in The Courier-Mail’s Fan Favourite survey, which allows supporters to rate the players in Queensland’s three NRL clubs out of 10 each week.

Six out of 10 is regarded as a solid effort in these surveys but 85 per cent of those who voted gave Hunt an eight or better last week.

A whopping 45 per cent rated him a nine while 21 per cent awarded him a perfect 10.

Even allowing for the pests who go on to our surveys each week and give every player a 10 or a one (and you are wasting your time, and ours, because the system weeds out joke entries), the polling averaged out at nine for the former Under 20s player of the year who has now notched 92 NRL appearances.

Veteran forwards Sam Thaiday and Corey Parker also caught the eye of fans in the Suncorp Stadium loss with eight ratings, the same as in-form hooker Andrew McCullough.

Cowboys fans weren’t as generous after the shock loss to the Warriors in Townsville with only forwards Matt Scott, Gavin Cooper and Tariq Sims earning eight points.

Superstar Johnathan Thurston got a seven although 21 per cent of fans rated him a lowly (for him) six.

The Gold Coast Titans bounced back from an insipid performance against the Wests Tigers with a gritty win over the Raiders in Canberra on Sunday and their fans recognised their efforts.

Co-captains Nate Myles and Greg Bird both notched eights but it was livewire halfback Albert Kelly who made the biggest impression with a nine from 28 per cent of respondents.

Our league writers are rating the players each week, too, but it’s you, the fans, we want to hear from.

This week the Broncos face the unbeaten Dragons in Wollongong and the match will be shown live on Channel Nine. So have a good look at how they go and jump in to rate them out of 10.
