NRL Grand Final: Suncorp Stadium a virtual sellout for historic event

Brisbane’s historic hosting of the NRL Grand Final is a virtual sellout, with the main allocation of 45,000 tickets snapped up in a matter of days, but the remaining tickets will go on sale soon. Here’s how you could score one.

The NRL Grand Final is set to be a Suncorp Stadium sell-out with the main allocation of tickets snapped up in a matter of days.

Some 45,000 tickets to the October 3 season finale have been sold, with a final allocation of 7000 tickets to go on sale next Monday after the two competing teams have been decided following this weekend’s preliminary finals.

Tickets went on sale to the general public last Thursday and NRL top brass is delighted at the response from footy fans for a match which will feature no Queensland team or fans from NSW and Victoria.

NRL CEO Andrew Abdo said the sell-out of the first allocation highlighted the passion for rugby league in Queensland.

“I want to thank Queenslanders for the way in which they’ve supported our game,’’ he said.

“It’s no surprise to see our first release of tickets sell so quickly. We’ve deliberately held back a second release to ensure fans of the two teams who make the Grand Final have an opportunity to watch their team live.

“Next Sunday will be an historic day for our game and for Queensland.

“It’ll also be a fitting celebration of the most unique season in our history.”

With the preliminary finals taking place over the weekend, the NRL will wait until 10am Monday to provide an extra allocation of 7000 tickets, initially to members of the two teams which make it through to the Big Dance.

Any tickets left unclaimed by club members will go on sale at 4pm Monday.

Tickets are still available for preliminary finals at Suncorp Stadium between the South Sydney Rabbitohs and Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles on Friday night and the 2020 Grand Final replay between the Melbourne Storm and Penrith Panthers on Saturday afternoon.
