Netball Top 30: We rank the best players in the country as Fowler, Sterling, Bruce vie for top spot

Jhaniele Fowler has won five consecutive player of the year awards, but our readers don’t consider her Super Netball’s best. See the full list and have your say.

Netballers hit back at social media trolls

Jhaniele Fowler has followed her stunning fifth consecutive Super Netball player of the year award with top ranking from a panel of experts ahead of the 2023 season.

With last year’s No.1 player Gretel Bueta not considered in voting as she sits out the 2023 season with her pregnancy, it was the Jamaican goal shooter who emerged as the best player in the game ahead of the new Super season starting on Saturday.

Fowler’s performance in the circle and the “net points” she racks up each outing following her statistical domination has ensured she has ruled league MVP honours since entering the league.

But her reign is not just a numbers game, with a panel of experts assembled by News Corp ahead of the 2023 season rating the Jamaican captain Super League’s top of the pops.

The panel – which included former Diamonds captain and Fox Netball expert Cath Cox, former Diamond Bianca Chatfield who writes exclusively for Code Sports, News Corp netball reporters Emma Greenwood and Hannah Davies and national digital sports editor Emily Benammar – were asked to submit their own individual top 30 lists with the cumulative votes producing the final rankings.

Interestingly Fowler didn’t appear as the No.1 in anyone’s top 30 vote, but she was always on the podium.

Thunderbirds Jamaican star goalkeeper Shamera Sterling was knocked off top spot after winning News Corp’s player of the year honours last season – finishing a single vote ahead of Fowler after efforts across all regular season games were tallied.

There are plenty of new faces in this year’s top 30 including Donnell Wallam, Kiera Austin and grand final MVP Sacha Glasgow.

Our team has cast their votes, now we want you to have your say.

If you think we have it right vote ‘Just Right’, if you think they should be higher up the list vote ‘Too Low’ and if they’re too high click ‘Too High’.
