McLaren’s Lando Norris celebrated winning his first Formula 1 world championship partying until 6am before topping it off with a McDonald’s breakfast.

Norris celebrated with his family and friends at an afterparty at the W Hotel, which overlooks the Yas Marina circuit, until almost sunrise after becoming Britain’s first F1 world champion in five years.

Videos emerged on social media of Norris belting out renditions of Queen’s famous celebratory song We are the Champions and Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline.

Speaking the day after his world title win, Norris revealed he didn’t leave the celebrations until 6am before heading to McDonalds to re-fuel.

But he admitted it wasn’t quite the breakfast of champions.

“(I had) a little McDonald’s. I really wanted some Chicken McNuggets but it was the morning by then so they didn’t have any left,” Norris told reporters in Abu Dhabi.

“I had a Sausage McMuffin. Was it the breakfast of champions? Certainly not. I regretted it straightaway.”

Norris posted a series of photos of his lively celebrations on his Instagram account with the caption “Lifetime of work went into this hangover”.

Norris sealed his maiden Formula 1 crown after finishing third in the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi behind Max Verstappen and teammate Oscar Piastri.

The 26-year-old finished just two points ahead of Verstappen in the driver standings and 13 ahead of Piastri in the tight three-way battle for the championship.

Norris said becoming a world champion would not change him.

“From the exterior it will change my life, but it won’t change me, and how I live it. I really hope it doesn’t anyway. I don’t want to be that kind of person,” Norris said.

“It is cool that people will now say I am a world champion and my name is on an incredible list of other drivers, but it won’t change who I am and that is the most important thing.”
