IT was a spectacular first day in the saddle for Jack Miller, as MotoGP gears up for this weekend’s Grand Prix of Argentina.
The Australian rising star posted his best dry-weather practice result in his brief MotoGP career by ending the day fourth fastest.
But he almost hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons.
Miller came within an ace of skittling Valentino Rossi.

“He braked a little later and I thought I had more stopping power and we touched a little,” Miller said.
“I thought I might clean him up, but luckily it didn’t happen!”

Miller looked among the strongest and most comfortable in the dusty conditions that greeted the teams and riders at the Termas de Rio Hondo circuit.
Not only did he finish inside the top ten in both sessions, he even led for quite some time during the morning’s running.
“I am really happy with how today went,” he said. “The bike seems to be working very well here. It is not only the fact that I’m fast, but I am also consistent and strong on used tyres.
“Conditions are changing lap-by-lap but I’ve been able to adjust and I just hope now that we can build on this to have a strong weekend.”
