Australian Ryan Williams has claimed X-Games gold with a crazy historic first in the BMX big air competition.
The 25-year-old Perth-born, Gold Coast-based daredevil claimed his third X-Games gold medal with an incredible backflip drop in, a trick which has never been attempted in the X-Games before.
The Aussie, in his fourth X-Games competition, had the commentators stunned as he attempted the incredible feat.
“This is going to be groundbreaking, we’re about to see the first backflip drop in attempt,” the commentators said.
“This has never happened before, this is the first backflip drop in we’ve seen on the mega ramp, it’s also the first backflip drop in Ryan Williams has ever tried in his life.”

It wasn’t the only slice of history for Williams whose three straight gold was another first.
His fourth run was also incredible with Williams dropping a front flip flare tabletop which the commentators said was “a world’s first”.
Williams was blown away by the feat, although he admitted it was bittersweet after competitor James Foster fell hard with his last trick.
“It’s incredible, this is the third gold in a row, it’s history, no one has ever done it,” Williams said after the day.
“This is redemption, my first ever X-Games was here last year and I couldn’t put it together. I literally did the same thing, I was having flashbacks. Something in me just said do this run.
“Whatever the best emotion in the whole world, that’s what I felt. Is this real life? Someone was cutting onions somewhere.”
Williams screamed: “that was for Dave Mirra” at the bottom of the ramp as he scored a gold medal with a winning score of 93.66.
Mirra was a legend of BMX Freestyle and medalled in every X-Games between 1994 and 2009.
He committed suicide in 2016 and was later posthumously diagnosed with chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), which is related to repeated concussions.
Williams said he was inspired by Mirra’s YouTube videos to pull off the incredible run.
“I thought, you know what, I’m going to bring in some Dave Mirra spice to this little mega ramp contest,” Williams said. “I’d actually never done a backflip drop in before so that’s my first ever backflip drop in on BMX, best place to try it I guess.”
It was a huge day for the Aussies with a trifecta on the Moto X Freestyle podium with Rob Adelberg taking gold.
