AUSSIE pitcher for the Kansas City Royals, Liam Hendriks has been dumped from the 40-man roster.

As the Royals continue their campaign to win the World Series against the San Francisco Giants, planning for next season has already begun.

Unfortunately Henriks does not feature in those plans. The West Australian starting pitcher was designated for assignment after the franchise claimed outfielder Moises Sierra off the waivers.

Hendriks, 25, was traded by the Toronto Blue Jays to the Royals back in July. A month later after rookie pitcher Yordano Ventura suffered a back injury, Henriks was called up from the minors to start in a game against the Minnesota Twins, one of his former teams.

His debut won the Aussie plenty of fans, retiring the first 14 batters and allowing just four hits, and striking out five without a single walk in the 6-1 win.

However Hendriks only played another three games for the Royals, all losses, coughing up four runs against the Yankees, three runs against Boston and four runs against Chicago.

Now designated for assignment, within the next week or so Hendriks’ fate will be decided. He will either be put on the waivers, released, traded, put in the minor leagues or, though unlikely, he could also be returned to the 40-man roster.

Kansas City are in the midst of a tense World Series against the San Francisco Giants.

During the regular season with the Royals, Hendriks posted a 5.23 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and a 23:7 K: BB ratio in just over 32 innings.
