Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul 2024: Fan fury overshadows Paul’s Tyson beat down

Influencer Jake Paul takes victory over former world champion Mike Tyson by unanimous decision. Relive how it happened.

Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson: How the final moments unfolded

They say everything’s bigger in Texas, and it was no different here today.

Inside Dallas’ big AT&T Stadium, there was a big robbery in the co-main event and an even bigger farce in the headline fight of the night.

How did it go?

Exactly how you’d expect a boxing match between a damaged 58-year-old man who hasn’t fought in nearly 20 years, and an athlete three decades his junior who’s in his physical prime.

Nicknamed El Gallo – The Rooster – Jake Paul weathered an early onslaught from Mike Tyson, before dominating the rest of the fight on the way to a lacklustre unanimous decision win with scores of 80-72, 79-73 and 79-73.

It was El Gallo versus the ghost of Iron Mike, who was clearly hampered by an injury to his right knee – which had a brace on it – from the third round on.

Asked afterwards if his knee was injured going in, Tyson said: “Yeah, but I can’t use that as an excuse.”

As obvious as it was that Tyson has no business being in a professional boxing ring, it was just as clear Paul doesn’t belong on a stage this big.

If he was a good enough boxer to truly earn a headline spot on a fight card watched by millions on Netflix and more than 70,000 in person, he would have stopped Iron Mike within six rounds.

He landed a few one-two shots, but hardly came close to scoring a knockout.

His calls for a fight with Canelo Alvarez are laughable.

The crowd at a nearly sold out venue might have consisted of more YouTube fans than boxing diehards, but by the sixth round, they knew they’d been taken for a ride.

With Paul unable to stop his immobile opponent, they started booing. A few started walking out.

The 78 punches Paul landed in eight rounds was bad, but far better than the 18 Tyson managed to land.

“I was trying to (stop him). I was scared he was going to hurt me, I was trying to hurt him,” Paul said.

An exhausted Tyson, who gave it a fair crack in the opening round, seemed pleased with his performance.

“Happy, yes. I came to fight,” he said. “I didn’t prove nothing to anybody, only to myself.

“I’m not one of those guys who live to please the world. I just do what I can do.”

He also dropped a bombshell that he might fight again against Paul’s older brother Logan.

“I don’t know. It depends on the situation,” he said. “Maybe his brother.”

Standing just inches away, Logan hit back: “I’ll kill you, Mike!”

Meanwhile, the co-main event, Katie Taylor scored a controversial unanimous decision win over a bloodied Amanda Serrano.

Taylor was repeatedly warned for headbutting, and opened up a horrific cut on Serrano’s right eye.

In a contender for fight of the year, Taylor edged the decision win with three scores of 95-94.

Serrano accused Taylor of fighting dirty, before her coach, Jordan Maldonado said he wants a third fight between them with different officials.

“If headbutting is not included and we get a fair referee – one that knows what he’s doing and is going to do what he needs to do,” Maldonado said.

“She head-butted repeatedly. It was a lot. If you look at Katie Taylor’s fights, a lot of her opponents have gone out with grotesque cuts on their heads.

“That’s what they do, they lead with the head.

“Katie’s a beautiful person, but has an extremely huge head.”
