Matildas striker Sam Kerr is unlikely to feature at the She Believes Cup with the star’s return to play delayed again.
Kerr, who plays for Chelsea in the WSL, is yet to return to training with the team and coach Sonia Bompastor has revealed she isn’t expecting her back before February.
The striker has been out for almost 12 months after rupturing her ACL in January.
In a recent interview Kerr hinted the injury involved more than just an ACL.
Matildas interim coach Tom Sermanni has said he expected her to be back in camp for the next window in February when the national team are due to play in the USA for the She Believes Cup.
“I would say Sam we are looking to maybe have back with us February, March but not before that,” Bompastor said.
“She didn’t start to train yet, even being modified with the group, so she’s still in her individual process rehab and I think it will take as least two or three more months for her to be fit enough to be with the squad.”
It is a big blow for the Matildas’ preparations for the 2026 Asian Cup, which is less than 15 months away.
