It’s the magical weekend getting Brisbane buzzing.
Now just days away, the NRL’s Magic Round is set to inject a whopping $28 million into the Brisbane economy with an estimated 30,000 rugby league fans due to spend up big at bars, restaurants and hotels during the looming footy feast.
Crowds for the eight matches across three days at Suncorp Stadium are on track to top 130,000 while the city’s hotels are at an incredible 75 per cent capacity across the weekend.
A “Magic Land” fan zone will also be established for the first time outside the northern end of Suncorp.
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said Magic Round was one of the state’s premier events.
“It’s been a huge success in the past and I’m sure it will be again next weekend,” she said.
“It’s even bigger and better now Queensland has four teams in the NRL.”
Queensland Tourism Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said Magic Round showcased Brisbane in all its sporting glory.
“This is always a magic time of year to embrace Brisbane’s great lifestyle and enjoy every game of round ten of the NRL premiership season live from the world’s premier rectangular stadium,” he said.
Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said this year’s Magic Round attendance was set to be a record.
“Fans are flying in from across the country to join local footy supporters to watch their favourite clubs,” he said.
“Brisbane will be buzzing, with local hotels packed, restaurants full to the brim as tens of thousands of people soak up our vibrant city.
“The popularity of this event cements exactly why Brisbane is the rightful home of NRL Magic Round.”
