After a thrilling season of TCI two-day cricket, we have run the rule across the best players from A and Reserve grade to name our team of the season.
The team of the season includes five batters, an all-rounder, a wicketkeeper, four bowlers and a 12th man.
See who made the dream team below.
1. Dave Callick (Souths, Reserve grade)
Callick was a weapon at the top of the order this season, scoring an impressive 295 runs at a stunning average of 73.75.
He showed he is capable of scoring quick runs and rotating the strike, which was evident in his season-high score of 92 runs from 97 balls, but was also able to anchor an innings and protect his wicket when needed.
2. Dean Fry (Met-Easts, A-grade)
Fry joins Callick at the top of the order in the dream team and was one of A-grade’s most consistent players this season.
He ends the campaign with an A-grade-high 350 runs at a solid average of 38.89.
Almost half of his runs came from one innings when he scored a superb 147 against University.
He very nearly made it back-to-back tons as in his very next game, he was dismissed in heartbreaking fashion for 98.
3. Brian May (Wests, A-grade)
After a stellar one-day season, the Bush Bradman took his game to another level in the two-day competition and helped Wests take home the 2024 premiership.
May scored back-to-back unbeaten tons in the final round of the regular season and the semi-final to end the competition with two centuries and one 50 from five innings with 279 runs at an average of 139.5.
4. Christopher Smythe (Souths, Reserve grade)
Smythe was electric in Reserve grade, scoring 171 runs at a stunning average of 85.5.
He recorded a highest score of 72 not-out against University.
5. Kahlem Reardon (Met-Easts, Reserve grade)
Reardon was a consistent performer for the Trojans as he scored two 50s in five innings.
The versatile batter showed he could bat anywhere in the order and ended the season with 176 runs at 35.2.
6. Luke Neale (Wests, A-grade)
The Wests captain takes the all-rounder spot in this team after another superb competition with bat and ball.
With the bat, he partnered May perfectly and scored 201 runs at an average of 33.5 and a highest score of 68.
As a bowler, he chipped in with eight wickets at a stunning average of just 8.38.
7. Brandon Sabburg (Met-Easts, A-grade)
Sabburg earns a spot as the wicketkeeper of this season’s dream team after making solid contributions with the bat and having a great set of hands.
With the bat, he scored 164 runs at an average of 20.5 and a top score of 81.
As a keeper, he led the way with 14 dismissals – 13 catches and one run-out.
8. Ryan Ward (Wests, A-grade)
Ward asserted himself as one of the most dangerous bowlers in the Garden City this summer and is the first bowler in our dream team.
With two five wicket hauls and 20 wickets at an average of 8.85, the Warriors were always in with a chance when Ward was at the top of his mark.
9. Aidan Watterson (Northern Brothers Diggers, A-grade)
Watterson was a force to be reckoned with this two-day season as he led Northern Brothers Diggers to the finals with his stellar bowling.
The Queensland Country rep ended the two-day competition with 21 wickets at a stunning average of 11.14.
10. Hayden Campbell (Met-Easts, A-grade)
One of the rising stars in Toowoomba, Campbell was one of the best bowlers in both white and red-ball cricket this year.
In the two-day game, the seam bowler led the entire competition for wickets taken alongside Watterson with 21 scalps.
He was also extremely economical, conceding just 1.98 runs per over throughout the two-day competition.
11. Jordan Sondergeld (Northern Brothers Diggers, A-grade)
Sondergeld was one of the key contributors for Northern Brothers as they finished the regular season in second place.
He formed a lethal bowling partnership with captain Watterson as the pair tore through opposing line-ups.
Sondergeld ended the season with 20 wickets and two five-wicket hauls.
12th man. Matt Johnston (University, A-grade)
Johnston is the 12th man for this side after his impressive exploits in both facets of the game.
With the bat, he showed how dangerous he can be when he gets his eye in as he scored a stunning 129 and ended the season with an average of 29.6.
He was a consistent weapon with the ball, as he took 11 wickets at an average of 14.
