Townsville sisters Serenity and Jurney Mila are a step closer to their NRLW dreams after each signing multi-year deals with the Penrith Panthers.
The two up-and-coming rugby league talents were invited to trial for positions within Penrith’s Lisa Fiaola Cup (under-17s) team, both impressing Panthers head of female pathways Karen Stuart enough to earn a contract.
The former Queensland and Jillaroos player has a rich history of rugby league as a player and coach, and she will oversee Penrith’s three women’s teams next year.
While Penrith doesn’t have an NRLW team yet, the Panthers will enter a team into the Harvey Norman Women’s Premiership – New South Wales’ reserve grade competition – from 2025.
The sisters said they were blown away by coach Stuart and the Panthers organisation and facilities, and they were both excited to get stuck into the work ahead to repay the belief that has been put on them.
The latest development comes after another bumper year for the rising athletes where they led Western Lions to grand final victory in the RLTD under-16s girls’ competition.
Lock-forward Serenity, 16, was named player of the final while younger sister and centre Jurney, 14, was crowned the team’s best and fairest by coach Matt Bowen at the end of season presentation.
The sisters now turn their attention back to training for the upcoming Pacific Youth Cup in New Zealand in October, where they will represent the Fetu Samoa under-17s.
