Vanuatu international Andrew Mansale and Norths young gun Jarrod Camer have combined for one of the greatest opening-wicket partnerships in Townsville cricket history to smash Suburban Parks by 10 wickets.
No openers since the advent of online statistics in 2009/2010 had produced a first-wicket partnership better than 137 until Mansale and Camer on Saturday.
Set 176 for victory, the Norths openers cruised to the total without loss - breaking the previous record held by Saints openers Todd Schloss and Clint Thompson from the summer of 2010/2011, 14 years ago.
Mansale hit the winning runs and brought up his maiden century in Townsville on the same delivery, ending the day unbeaten on 101no from 86 balls with 17 boundaries dispatched.
Partner-in-crime Camer added 71no from 107 with six boundaries.
Their work swept aside first innings half-centuries from Chris Perry (73) and Chris Gartrell (58) of Sub Parks.
Wanderers opener Taj Petersen could only look on in disbelief as he returned to the pavilion unbeaten on 18 runs with his teammates bowled out around him for a total of 51.
Shaun Curnow (4-8) and Sam Bray (3-14) enjoyed excellent bowling days for Wests as the side romped to an eight wicket victory in under nine overs with the bat.
North Queensland’s representative teams enjoyed similar good fortune against South Queensland, with Lachlan Ford, Sam Lowry, Travis Busch and Justin Dixon rewarded for a clean sweep against South Queensland with selection in the Queensland Country team for the national championships.
Locals Chloe Murphy, Grace Abdy and Courtney Hewitt were picked for the Queensland Country women’s team.
