QSL Basketball: Top plays of Round 2

A vicious slam from a returning Australian star has claimed the No. 1 spot in our top plays from the second round of the Queensland State League.

Basketball fans were treated to plenty of highlight plays in the second week of competition as more National Basketball League players hit the court for different teams around southeast Queensland.

Spectacular one-on-one displays of athleticism, powerful dunks, put back slams and giant rejections – round two of the QSL had it all.

Here are our top five plays from round two:

1. William McDowell-White – RedCity Roar

– Top spot this week goes to Roar point guard, William McDowell-White who stole the show in the club’s first home game with a defensive steal, which turned into a two-hand dunk in the middle of the floor all over one Northside Wizards defender. The Roar would also go on to get the win. (Credit: Aushoopers/IGK Media for video)

2. TJ Diop – Gold Coast Rollers

– The veteran is one of few players in this season’s Rollers team with significant state league experience and he showed it against the Southern Districts Spartans. In the second quarter, Diop capped a run from the visitors with a spectacular two-hand put back dunk off the shot of teammate Levi Frankland.

3. Josh Derksen – Southern Districts Spartans

– A man, who has been a special offensive player since coming through the junior ranks, Derksen showed just what he is capable of when Gold Coast big Brent Wallace tried to guard him on the perimeter. Derksen showed off some of his handles with the ball before exploding past for a two-hand jam.

4. Tyrell Harrison – Southern Districts Spartans

– Usually it’s a guard finding a big man open for a dunk but this time it was two near seven-footers who combined for a special play. In the first quarter of the Spartans game against Gold Coast, Callum Dalton found his way to the middle of the keyway before finding a cutting Tyrell Harrison for a monstrous dunk.

5. Tyrell Harrison – Southern Districts Spartans

– Tyrell Harrison also provided the Spartans with a big defensive presence against Gold Coast and the Rollers’ Tom Howard can attest to that after trying to take on Harrison at the basket before being blocked. Unfortunately, Harrison followed the play with a technical foul for taunting Howard after the block.
