With the QSL to feature Australian Boomers and Opals stars as well as more NBL and WNBL talents, the partnership is a huge boost for the sport in Queensland after returning to court following the cancellation of the inaugural season of NBL1 North.
The Courier-Mail’s executive editor of digital, Bryce Johns, said the partnership with Basketball Queensland was one of the most significant of the year.
‘’It’s a boom sport and we are very happy to be working with such a forward-thinking organisation,” he said.
‘’We’ll be livestreaming dozens of games in the next few months – from the state junior finals for under-12s up to senior secondary schools.
“To be part of the Queensland State League as well is a cherry on top for us and subscribers.’’
The streaming schedule will start with an epic clash between state-league heavyweights, the Logan Thunder, hosting league newcomers RedCity Roar.
There will be no shortage of talent on the floor as these teams start their seasons with stars such as Australian Boomer Harry Froling, NBA G-League player William McDowell-White signed with the Roar and former NBL trio Mitch Young, Chris and Michael Cedar suiting up for Logan in the men.
While in the women, last year’s QBL MVP Mikaela Ruef will lead a Thunder side also featuring WNBL talents Ashley Taia, Mikhaela Cann and Chevannah Paalvast against Opal Lauren Mansfield and New Zealand Tall Fern Ashleigh Karaitiana.
Basketball Queensland chief operating officer Joshua Pascoe said the partnership was great news for the sport.
