REPLAY: RedCity Roar def Sunshine Coast Phoenix, 95-93 (Div 1 Men’s)
RedCity, who have been led by NBA G-League guard William McDowell-White, Bullets big man and NBA prospect Harry Froling as well as talented guards in Darryl McDowell-White and Verle Williams, will look to build on an already successful first season in Queensland’s top-tier league after only losing one game to finish on top after 11 regular season games.
The Roar also will have extra confidence heading into the clash with the Phoenix at the Paul Bancroft Centre having beaten the Sunshine Coast 103-84 away from home earlier in the season.
However, the Phoenix and their core three, in Jamaal Robateau, Nelson Kahler and Jonathan Janssen, are in red hot form having caused an upset by beating the Southern Districts Spartans on their home floor in last week’s quarterfinal to keep their season alive.
Tip-off between RedCity and the Phoenix is at 6.30pm.
In Ipswich, the Force will look to end Brisbane’s chances of repeating after the Capitals won last year’s QBL championship and the contest at JBS Arena will be headlined by two Bullets star guard in Sobey and Jason Cadee going head-to-head.
Both are MVP candidates for the league and while Sobey and the Force are returning to the court after a week off, the Capitals are coming off a big win over the Logan Thunder in last week’s quarterfinal, where Cadee was dominant with 43 points.
But Sobey is averaging almost 30 points per game himself and has helped this Ipswich side cause upset after upset this season on their way to a top two finish.
With both teams boasting NBL stars, it will be the supporting crews who could decide the game with Ipswich’s Jesse Ghee, Jason Ralph and Mitch Poulain looking to get the better of Brisbane’s Jarred Bairstow, Nick Stoddart and Tim Soong.
Tip-off between Ipswich and Brisbane is at 7pm.
